It’s that time of year when all the foodbanks put extra effort into raising extra donations to help those most in need over the festive season. Foodbanks do an excellent job in trying to provide a basic supply of food to those who have been left with nothing.
It is no secret that most of those relying on foodbanks are there because of the inhumane benefits system imposed by the Tory UK Government (supported by Labour MPs when they’re not ritually abstaining from any votes that could make life better for benefit claimants).
So for the next few weeks we’ll be seeing photos of politicians encouraging others to donate to their local foodbank. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, many politicians have supported foodbanks all year round and many are fighting hard against the Tory benefit sanctions. However, what is unacceptable are the right wing Tory MPs – like Ross Thomson pictured at a foodbank in Torry, Aberdeen – encouraging support for foodbanks when he is part of the problem that has driven people to rely on these services. How dare he! If he was so concerned about those who have to rely on feeding themselves and their families from foodbanks he wouldn’t be a Tory MP! Or at very least he would be calling for the scrapping of the victimisation of benefit claimants which the Tories have been indulging in.
